An epic tale of redemption and self-discovery, Tales from Earthsea is from famed Japanese animators Studio Ghibli, a sweeping adventure set in mythical world filled with magic and bewitchment. It was first released in Japan by Studio Ghibli, on July 29, 2006. It is set to be released on August 13, 2010, in the US by Walt Disney Pictures. A war galley is caught in a storm at sea. The ship's weatherworker is distressed to realize that he has lost the power to control the wind and waves, but is even more disturbed when he observes two dragons fighting above the clouds, one of which is eventually killed.
Tales from Earthsea follows the voyage of Lord Archmage Sparrowhawk (voice of Timothy Dalton), the master wizard, as he searches for the energy behind a mysterious fracas that has caused an unevenness in the land of Earthsea-suddenly crops and livestock are dwindling, dragons have reappeared and humanity is giving way to chaos. Along the way he rescues Arren (voice of Matt Levin), a troubled young prince who has fled his home and is being pursued by an enigmatic shadow. Arren joins Sparrowhawk on the quest and, moving closer to their intertwined destinies, they cross paths with Tenar (voice of Mariska Hargitay), a former priestess, and her disfigured adopted daughter, Therru. With Sparrowhawk’s magical powers dissipating, all of them must band together to trounce the evil Cob (voice of Willem Dafoe) and his henchman Hare (voice of Cheech Marin) before Cob’s mania to find immortality destroys Earthsea.
A prince sets out on a magical journey and discovers wizards, witches, dragons and self-knowledge in Tales from Earthsea. This is a movie chock-full of genre, art/foreign, science fiction/fantasy, animation and adaptation with a running time of 1 hour and 55 minutes, a film of castle in the sky you must see.
